This past weekend a neighbour of mine had a baby boy. Congratulations mother and baby well you may say but, having had all her treatment in Crumpsall on the night, one in the morning to be precise, they turned her away because they where full.
She then had to return home, to call a number, until they could find her a bed somewhere, which turned out to be St. Mary’s half way across town. When she did finally get there she gave birth within the hour.
I cannot describe how dangerous this was and how frightened the women felt, if anyone harbours doubts for a second how disasterus playing politics with this reorganisation is let them only talk to someone going through pregnancy now.
The ultimate ignominy is the head of the PCT saying “we are a little disappointed” and the local MP and cabinet minister “Hazel Blears” saying she is now satisfied what changed with the plans that she has made such an about turn?
Have they no moral fibre left? What will they not stop at? Let’s hope and pray that they see sense soon as it is still not too late to undo much of the damage. We must keep up the pressure each of us have a responsibility to do all in our powers to effect a change is this disasterus closure program.
