What a load of rubbish 18 April, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — odze @ 9:01 am

A few months ago I asked the Council if they would provide a pre-Passover bin collection as most other local authorities with a large Jewish population do, so as to prevent the rubbish pilling up on the streets. Suffice to say I got no answer.

A few weeks ago, my colleagues once again asked and were given no answer. So I put it in my advert, and true to form (it is pre-election, after all) just days later Labour announce there would be skips provided on Thursday. Well, none have turned up and I’ve had calls and e-mails all yesterday. This morning I received a text at 1.23am this morning and the phone has kept ringing from 5am.

I understand and I hope that the skips will be here today (Friday) but in the meantime huge piles of rubbish have been dumped at the designated areas.

What we learn from this is:

1.       Pressure does work.

2.       Labour only care when there is an election.

3.       Yet they still can’t ever get it right!

I look forward to a proper arrangement being made in good time before next year to look after the hard working rate payers ALL YEAR ROUND.

UPDATE: Skips arrived this morning and most of the rubbish collected. No end of fury and misery caused, but lesson learned for Labour the Council Don’t play petty politics with people’s bins.

Gwyneth Dunwoody RIP 18 April, 2008

I posted this on Politicalbetting.com. Which goes to the heart of why I can’t stand politicians without principals, namely LD’s.

Mike I must say, you have just shown the worst of Liberal Democrat tendencies. There is an oft quoted saying that comes to mind “everything you say must be true, but not everything true must be said.” Some may be thinking it does not mean we have to say it. My deepest respects to her family and friends.

Maude in Kersal 15 April, 2008

Over and above the confidence  boost of 21 canvassers in Kersal, and having a senior Shadow Cabinet member with us,  it was very reassuring when others confirm your canvass returns us four have been getting over the last few months.

A massive thank you to all that came, especially my Council colleges. Did I not tell you to expect a warm reception my neighbours in Lower Kersal would give us? It’s not just the closure of the Post Office People are just fed up but hope to a future of a hard working Local Councillor for once, from us they see ACTION not broken promises.

PS sorry to those that where cut out right of the picture, your effort was very much appriciated.

Attacking Cameron 9 April, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — odze @ 1:11 pm

I was rather disappointed the BBC chose to run the story of David Cameron having to take time off campaigning to look after his poorly child that’s condition has taken a turn for the worse.

Whilst it could be considered a legitimate news story and in the public interest, however it is common knowledge that this is by means the first time Ivan has caused David his father to have to take time off, and no one can say that it has in anyway impeded his capacity to fulfil his job very successfully.

More importantly however is what message this sends to millions of families across the country that tries to balance theirs or their family’s ill health and work.

It is cold comfort for Mr Cameron that this will only enhance his appeal as it shows his human side to the votes as a whole.

“New” Labour “Old” predispositions 7 April, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — odze @ 3:42 pm

Another day, another old Labour attack from a new Labour minister. Under Gordon Brown formerly “New” Labour ministers, not just back bench MP’s are rediscovering their red routes. From singing The Red Flag in the lobby’s to attacking faith schools to deflect from their own failings.

New Labour farming Minister Lord Rooker said “Halal and kosher meat should not be slipped in to food chain, says minister”. I am not sure he himself understands the constitutional implications of what he says, especially in the light of the debate Rowan Williams started last year.

Had it been any other minister I would have simply objected, but considering what he ministry is responsible for, I feel it calls into question his eligibility for such a job. The wheels have come off New Labour some time ago; it looks like they are losing the cart now.

Faith based Education 4 April, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — odze @ 12:22 pm

I have for some time been observing the governments attacks on Faith and independent schools asking for “Voluntary” contributions, and having unsuccessfully waited for the substance for time, to me it is both good old Labour coming out against successful faith and independent schools, but more importantly covering up for the scandal of a record number of children not getting their preferred school places.

Just consider two things, over the last four years the government has forced Councils across the country to close small schools and schools for the disabled, many of them the best schools we had. Leading to a massive squeeze on places children, not getting into their local school or their preferred placed and in rural areas children travelling miles to study.

Furthermore the governments knows and knew what these payments where about, front and backbench Labour MP’s have reminded the government they are for security the police won’t provide and the element of religious education.

Anyone that knows me knows that I have an altogether controversial view of faith schools but at least I am open about it. Let’s start valuing success and faith more and play politics with our children less.

Post office closures 3 April, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — odze @ 5:31 am

Today I had a meeting with Mrs. Amy Patel the post mistress on Littleton Road, described to me the distress the threat of closure to her Post office is causing her and the community. Last year over 600 of us signed a petition to keep the Post Office open yet all we get is sheer silence from our Labour Councillors, Shame on them. To add to the conspiracy the “review” it’s due to report a week AFTER the elections, and we well remember what happened to last year’s “review” into the decision to close Hope Hospital Maternity unit.

So when your Labour activist calls on you, do tackle them on why they are silent of the important issue of today that people are talking about, and I further urge you to hit them where it hurts and vote Conservative on the 1st May, it’s the only language Labour understand.
