CC- minister breaks ranks 19 November, 2008

Government minister Ivan Lewis when challenged this weeks on how he is voting in the congestion charge referendum said “I don’t discuss such matters”. clearing rattled and frightened he sidestepped the chance to support his own party line.
It is becoming increasing clear that Labour is aware they are in for a drubbing along the lines of the overwhelming no vote to the North East regional assembly referendum.

This is truly a grass root movement that crosses all divide, politically and socially. Which is made all the more impressive considering the amount of money and effort the Yes campaign have put in, which is in the David V Goliath mode.

Those that know him would not be surprised however as he is increasingly becoming a serial rebel, what’s more from the government front benches, further undermining Gordon Browns authority.

Hearing the mini road sweep van outside my house, I quickly rushed out and made a small pile of leaves outside my drive. In a rude manner the operator opened his door as said “you can’t do that, you’re littering the streets”. I have no doubt that is the rule, however it spells volumes to what’s wrong with Salford, and besides was it so necessary to be so rude about it?

Since when do teacher get involves in politics, why can’t the Labour spin doctors let the inspectors do their job unhindered. I smell the finger prints of Labour spin doctors all over that letter, right down to the wording.

Following some enquiries as to when Salford Council intend to clear the leaves in Kersal, which have now turned into a Welch, I got this reply, “

Kersal will be swept Tue/Wed 18/19/08 but please be aware that it is not possible to sweep all the leaves in the Broughton and Kersal area in one week this could take between 6/8 weeks”. Frankly I could not agree with you more, not good enough, do they not know leaves fall this time of year?

Governments of all colours, call the opposition opportunist, often with some justification. Whilst it is the job of her majesties loyal opposition to scrutinise government bills, and oppose them if they feel it is bad legislation, it is however a delicate balance to strike.

24 hour opening for licensed premises was not such a case. Not only was it too much too fast, is was plain wrong for our society, now and in the long term. Besides the bill was so poorly crafted, it is practically unworkable. Most importantly, as the ALL PARTY home affair committee highlighted today, as ever this labour government has saddled the police with extra work, without giving them the tools or resources to cope.

So its high time this government rediscovered its reverse gear, admit it was a poor experiment gone wrong, eat humble pie, and restore dignity and normality to the streets of England, for people to be safe again at night.

Tonight someone collared me in a shop, and changed me on the Conservative position to the congestion charge. Explaining to him the Conservative opposition to it and its ramifications for the area, he related to me that he was from Prestwich and he had the LD’s on the door today rallying against it, and blaming Labour and Conservatives for it.
Had it not been for the fact that I had hared this before from others, and the fact that this person is a well read educated person I would not have believed it.

However the LD’s breathtaking hypocrisy and shabby opportunism is legendary nationally, and particularly blatant in Prestwich. They will not stop at misinformation and lies to steal peoples votes and this is no exception.

For those that do not follow every turn of greater Manchester (GM) politics, let me explain. There are ten GM Councils, of which two thirds are needed to pass the congestion charge. The Conservatives control Trafford and Bury and the LD’s control Stockport and Rochdale.

So Bury and Trafford being conservative led and true to what they told their voters voted against. The LD’s who are FOR the charge voted for it in Rochdale, only dissenting LD’s in Stockport voted against.

Leaving Labour in coalition with the LD’s to pass this new tax, and as some sort of compromise they allowed a non binding referendum of the people to take place as a sop to the Conservatives. A move which they had previously insisted was wrong and dangerous.

Furthermore what gets me is the LD’s in Prestwich fail to mention that between 2007-2008 when Bury Council was hung and run by a minority Conservative distraction, the one concession the LD’s in Bury exerted from the Conservative, were the two seats Bury had on the GMPTA in order to vote for the new driving tax.

So in short there is no group more for the new tax then Prestwich LD’s in Manchester. Yet in Prestwich they are knocking on doors telling people they are against it. Had they not been a political party they would have been sued and put of business a long time ago. Yet they are the first to shoat from the roof tops that we have a broken political system, yes you LD’s are the ones breaking it! Hence you are now, and until you change always will be the third party in British politics and the dumping ground for protest votes!
